The oldest narrow-gauge railway in Ukraine, nestled in the picturesque heart of the Carpathians, the Western Gorgany, is in itself a unique reason to visit Vyhoda and its surroundings, to discover the local nature and culture, and to enjoy an active holiday. To plan your Carpathian journey in the best possible way, to immerse yourself in yet undiscovered facts about the Carpathians and the history of the area—closely connected with the woodworking industry and the narrow-gauge railway—make sure to visit one of the most remarkable buildings in Vyhoda, located right in the very center of the town: the Vyhoda Narrow-Gauge Heritage Center.
Here, visitors are first invited to explore an interactive exhibition that tells the story of the local environment, including the forest ecosystem of the Carpathians, as well as the history of the region—the development of the forestry and woodworking industries around Vyhoda, the emergence of the Vyhoda narrow-gauge railway, ethnography, folk crafts, and more.
In this versatile place—more precisely, in the Center’s shop—you can also fulfill your desire for Carpathian souvenirs, guidebooks, and local history publications.
Today, there is no place in the Ukrainian Carpathians quite like the Vyhoda Narrow-Gauge Heritage Center. Few museums or visitor centers can match its variety of interpretive tools dedicated to local nature and ethnography. For example, you will find a realistic locomotive that allows you to almost genuinely travel along the historic route of the Vyhoda narrow-gauge railway, as well as multilingual films devoted to topics ranging from woodworking and traditional crafts to the railway’s history from its origins to the present day.
The Vyhoda Narrow-Gauge Heritage Center is open six days a week.
It is located directly on the R-21 highway, near the departure point of the Carpathian Tram. Next to its stop there is a convenient parking area for cars and buses.
